On the back of strong technical progress and early customer interest, EnyGy has begun delivering a federally backed Industry Growth Program (IGP) project to take our graphene ultracapacitors from proven lab performance to scaled products made in Melbourne. The award provides Commonwealth funding of up to A$727,289 on a 50% matched basis to help us commercialise our 2.7 V and 3 V platforms and push a next-generation, higher-energy formulation toward market.
“This IGP award is about execution,” said Wiehann de Klerk, EnyGy CEO. “We’re scaling Australian-made graphene films, validating our 2.7 V and 3 V cells, and driving a next-gen ultracapacitor that targets a meaningful lift in energy density. The work is underway now—and it’s geared to certification, partnerships and real-world adoption.”
At the heart of the project are EnyGy’s graphene electrode films—the critical layers that enable fast charge/discharge, improved energy density and long service life. The grant allows EnyGy to invest in production equipment, process control and quality systems so we can consistently supply films and finished cells to commercial partners. By expanding our film capacity in Melbourne, we’re not just meeting current demand; we’re creating the platform for higher-energy products the market is already asking for.
The IGP support also helps accelerate market access—from quality frameworks to certification and channel partnerships. “Co-funding lets us move faster on productisation while keeping core materials and know-how sovereign,” said de Klerk. “It aligns perfectly with our plan to grow local capability and partner globally.”
“As a company, we’re matching the Commonwealth dollar-for-dollar to turn this into capacity, customers and revenue,” de Klerk added. “It’s catalytic capital for commercialisation—focused squarely on shipping qualified products at repeatable quality.”
Why This Matters
The IGP’s objective is to support innovative Australian SMEs to commercialise, scale and expand trade, positioning recipients to attract follow-on investment. EnyGy’s project aligns directly—progressing product certification, scaling local film/materials production, and establishing strategic partnerships and distribution.
What the Project Delivers
Three Product Tracks: market rollout of 2.7 V, validation of 3 V, and development of a next-gen high-graphene platform targeting step-change energy density.
Scale in Melbourne: expand electrode-film and cell-assembly capacity with tighter process control and QA.
Certification Pathways: advancing quality and safety compliance to accelerate adoption in key markets such as handheld devices and POS equipment, IoT and telematics systems, and data storage/backup solutions.
Go-To-Market: progress distribution and manufacturing partnerships to shorten time-to-revenue.
What’s Next
Over the coming quarters we’ll complete platform-validation builds, expand film production, and line up pilot deployments with early customers—each tied to clear IGP milestones and reports. As de Klerk noted, “The focus is simple: ship qualified product, at repeatable quality, into real applications.”
